Production Details
The project fell into the hands of a studio experienced in adapting light novels. They assembled a directing team with new blood to give fresh air to the narrative.
So that political intrigues don’t feel heavy or break the comedy’s rhythm, scripts were supervised by a veteran writer of the industry.
Character designs were transferred to animation almost perfectly tracing the original illustrations from the novel. Purist fans will be happy.
Voice Cast
The real surprise: a lineup of heavyweight seiyuus carrying dialogues full of double intentions and conspiracies.
- Kaito Ishikawa as the prince. Recognized for Tobio Kageyama in Haikyuu!! and Genos in One Punch Man.
- Yui Horie as the female protagonist. The legendary voice behind Tsubasa Hanekawa in Monogatari and Wiz in Konosuba.
- Takehito Koyasu as a key support character. The unmistakable voice of Dio Brando in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Zeke Yeager in Attack on Titan.
About the Franchise
The story comes from a successful light novel series that has already sold hundreds of thousands of copies in Japan.
The plot puts us in the shoes of a prince who, at first glance, is the most ordinary, gray and boring forgettable guy in the entire palace. Nobody gives a penny for him.
But all that is nothing more than a perfectly calculated vile facade.
In the shadows, this vapid prince is a puppeteer master pulling the kingdom’s strings. He secretly recruits allies and puts together absurdly brilliant plans to seize the throne without raising suspicion.
It’s a mix of political intrigue, comedy of affairs, and conspiracies. Ideal for those who enjoy seeing a protagonist win using brains instead of fists.
Why It Works
What makes a protagonist who wins through invisibility satisfying? When everyone’s playing a role, how do you tell the puppet from the master?
