Desires born of hate always bring unpredictable consequences, especially when supernatural forces intervene. This Thursday, CoMix Wave Films surprised everyone by launching a spectacular trailer for their upcoming anime short film Shiranui.
The production premieres in Japanese cinemas on August 21. Runtime: approximately 35 minutes. No filler. Every second counts.
The Story
Coast of Kumamoto, late summer 1996. Minato, a ten-year-old boy, lives a miserable existence with his alcoholic father. His only refuge: Ben-chan, a goddess in the form of a girl who lives on Benten Island.
When Minato discovers he’s being sent to an orphanage, he prays to a mysterious sea light known as Shiranui for one last request. His wishβsteeped in resentment toward his fatherβtransforms into something darker.
A wish born of hate doesn’t just misfire; it mutates into a curse. You push the universe from a dark corner, and the universe pushes back.
The Director
Ryo Katanosaka makes his debut here. Until recently, he was worked at the fish counter of a supermarket. One day scaling mackerel, the next steering a CoMix Wave production.
