July 12, 2022 marks five years in Japan since the premiere of the anime adaptation of the manga, written and illustrated by Meguru Ueno, Hajimete no Gal (My first girlfriend is a gal). That same year, an OVA would be released, accompanying the fifth compilation volume of the work, considered “the eleventh” installment in the series, but there have been no updates to the project since.
This adaptation project was widely criticized by fans of the manga for taking too many creative liberties, changing the order of events or modifying them outright by adding characters or modifying their personalities. This means that those who have watched the anime and want to switch to the manga will have to start from scratch as the story of both is very different despite having the same core.

Ueno began publishing the manga through the magazine Monthly Shonen Ace from the publisher Kadokawa in November 2015. The publisher released the fourteenth anthology in January 2022, followed by the fifteenth on July 26 in Japan.
The play inspired a ten-episode animated adaptation produced by Studios NAZLed by Hiroyuki Furukawa and screenplays written by Yuuichirou Momosereleased in July 2017. An OVA was released in December of the same year and there has been no news since then.
Summary of Hajimete no Gal
After a prank from his evil friends, Junichi Hashiba asks a girl out on a date in a desperate bid to change the fact that he’s a hopeless virgin. Yukana Yame, the girl in question, is disgusted by Junichi’s humiliation. However, through a series of teasing comments, she soon realizes that he has grown fond of her and eventually, much to Junichi’s surprise, accepts her confession. Thus, Hajimete no Gal follows Junichi as he overcomes his lack of confidence and suppresses his sexual urges, all while entering a whole new school life filled with beautiful girls and unpredictable chaos.
