Right, here’s the thing about school hierarchies—they’re built on assumptions. And assumptions? They’re usually wrong. This April, Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!? arrives to prove exactly that point. The new trailer dropped this Saturday, and we’ve got ourselves a proper culture clash brewing. Crunchyroll’s carrying it worldwide from 8 April, so no one misses out.
The Soundtrack
Someone’s made interesting choices here. (G)I-DLE—yes, the K-pop powerhouse—are handling the opening with “HIDE AND SEEK.” Then sun soo girl brings the rock energy for the ending theme “Ishō Nakako.” East meets west meets something entirely its own.

The Voice Talent
They’ve assembled quite the roster:
- Atsumi Tanezaki (Anya Forger herself, plus Frieren) plays Kakeru Ijichi
- Konomi Kohara (Chika Fujiwara, Roxy Migurdia) takes Sayu Amamiya
- Jun Kasama and Emiri Kato round out the Ijichi family
The Premise
Takuya Seo. Otaku. Sits behind the popular gals—Ijichi and Amane. Different castes, same classroom. Then someone borrows an eraser, and suddenly Amane knows rather a lot about anime for someone who’s supposed to be above all that.
Funny how that works.
The manga’s been running in Monthly Comic Zenon since August 2021—Norishiro-chan on script, Sakana Uozumi on art. Coamix publishes.
So here’s what I’m wondering: when the masks slip and the real interests surface, who’s actually been performing for whom—the gal hiding her fandom, or the otaku assuming he knows how this story ends?
