A few days ago the guys from MAP had announced that they are working on a new anime series, the eighth in the course of 2020. Today, August 13th, 2020, the animation studio finally presented the series with the title Taiso Samurai and focused on the adventures of a 29 year old athlete at a difficult time in his career.
Taiso Samurai, set in 2002, tells the story of 29-year-old Shotaro Aragaki, a former member of the Japanese men’s athletics team. The boy doesn’t seem as competitive as he used to be and his coach Noriyuki Amakusa continues to suggest resigning. However, his love and devotion to gymnastics, coupled with the hard work and support he received from his little daughter Rei, drives him in a different direction.
The series is directed by Hisatoshi Shimizu (Zombie Land Saga, Natsume Yujin-cho) and written by Shigeru Murakoshi (Zombie Land Saga, To the Forsaken Sacred Beasts) while the character design is curated by Kasumi Fukagawa (Zombie Land Saga). Music consists of the talents Masaru Yokoyama (Bugie d’Aprile, fruit basket).
The anime will debut in Japan on October 10th, around the same time that Jujutsu Kaisen will arrive. You can watch the official trailer below.
For Studio MAPPA, this is the eighth series slated for 2020, after Tama & Friends, Dorohedoro, Listeners, The God of High School, Mr Love: Election of the Queen, Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack of the Giants 4 made at this point Slip were possible in 2021.
