ONE PIECE recently passed the important milestone of 100 published volumes and 1000 episodes of animated adaptation. Impressive figures that show how much Eiichiro Oda’s pirate epic is very popular, but the mangaka himself had something to say about the longevity achieved through the adventure of Luffy and his companions.
During the special interview between the two organized by Shueisha and Shogakukan Master Eiichiro Oda and Gosho AoyamaAuthor of another extremely long-lived series, Detective Conan, the Sensei openly admitted that he never wanted to get to that many volumes and that it was basically the desire to add more material that drove him.
“Begin, it was not my intention to exceed 100 volumes. I’ve always wanted to end the series. Nevertheless, I keep thinking about how much I still want to tell or draw“Thus commented Oda, who we recall admitting to officially beginning the final arc, a decision evident after the end of the Wano saga and in the revolution narrated in chapter 1054.
A statement that shows itself again the deep passion that Oda has put into his work for 25 years, which maintained inhuman productive rhythms and which, however, allowed him to better define an impossibly vast and mysterious universe like that of ONE PIECE.
