ONE PIECE is packed with strong characters regardless of their origin or race. However, those who sit at the top undoubtedly draw a lot of attention. Among the pirates, the strongest are the emperors, also known to manga audiences by the name Yonko, the original Japanese name. Among these there are Shanks the red.
Shanks the Red is the first major pirate to appear in ONE PIECE – aside from Gol D. Roger – and he prompted Luffy to choose the sea route, including giving him the Straw Hat previously owned by the Pirate King .
