Luffy defeated, Kaido victorious, a cry of anger and despair that spreads through all allies. But a distant sound begins to boom, a sound that awakens a new time. ONE PIECE 1043 launches a transformation of Luffy before a truly difficult hiatus and brings one of the most important chapters to life.
ONE PIECE 1044 begins with the usual mini-adventure, where Niji and Yonji are about to go under the knife. In fact, Big Mom’s children are still holding her captive and preparing for various experiments. After that, the chapter “The Warrior of Deliverance” begins, with a few phrases from Luffy waking up. But the scene isn’t immediately for him as we move on to Momonosuke and Yamato’s reaction, then Sanji’s and little by little the other allies like Kid, Law, Hyogoro and Marco.
In Pangea, the Five Stars of Wisdom speak of the truth about a certain devil fruit: Gom Gom never existed, its real name is the mythological homo-homo fruit: model Nika, the sun god, a human being of absolute freedom and who should never wake up, able to laugh and bring laughter and freedom everywhere. All these speeches while in a cartoon we see the silhouette of Luffy smiling against the light of the moon.
Black Lightning announces a short scene change where the feud between Hiyori and Orochi ends. The Shogun, still trapped, begins to pray to the enemy, asking them to escape together and begging for forgiveness, but Hiyori remains adamant. After removing his mask, Kazenbo’s remains appear, which attack Orochi and burn him alive.
We then return to the central hall, where a new fight begins: fifth gear is active, a black bolt of lightning from the haki knocks out Kaido’s pirates and a giant hand smashes through the ceiling, grabbing the dragon and carrying it aloft. Luffy squeezes Kaido and slams him here and there with comic and cartoon effects and having fun like never before. Also, avoid a boro breath by rotating the rubber floor and use it to deflect the attack.
On the final pages of ONE PIECE 1044, you’ll see Luffy’s all-new character: The awakening of his Devil Fruit caused a radical change in the protagonist. Now the fight turns to the end.
