Among the works of Master Go Nagai, devil man it is certainly the most mature and disturbing. Published between 1972 and 1973, Devilman impressed and inspired many generations of young readers, and the manga is still very relevant today. Last year, a virtual Devilman festival exhibition was held, reflecting the passion of the fans.
In 2018, anime Devilman Crybaby was adapted from manga by Nagai shot by the visionary director Masaaki Yuasa. Despite the lack of fidelity to the original author’s drawings, Yuasa’s Devilman not only wowed audiences with its use of a particularly wacky graphic and animation style that characterizes many of the director’s works, but also stayed true to the paper work.
However, not many know that Devilman is the one Champion of a Japanese city. In fact, there is one on the roof of a Tokushima building Statue of Akira Fudo in his demonic form, as we can see in the pictures posted by @ on TwitterMonsters of Kanto. The character is portrayed as in the original 1970s anime series produced by TOEI Doga, i.e. with a light blue color and a black mask.
The statue is a natural size. Devilman has always guarded the city’s neighborhoods from above, not fighting the demons but keeping an eye on the evildoers. Who would ever want to commit crimes with a champion like that?
Fun fact: A life-size statue of Devilman sits atop a building in downtown Tokushima. He is about 3 meters tall and has been guarding Tokushima since 2013.#デビルマン #devilman pic.twitter.com/Rw3Ngs60wZ
