Marvel Comics has actually announced the Ben Reilly Spider-Man series in the past few hours written by JM DeMatteis, Author of one of the most mature and introspective stories in the spider universe, Kravens The Last Hunt, and designed by David Baldeon. The story will take us back in time when Ben first had to replace Peter as Spider-Man, an interesting setback that could prove important and tie in with the events in the main title.
The series, which comes out in January, was briefly presented as a blast from the past, at a particularly complex time for the city New York, ravaged by murders, all apparently connected the maximum effort required from Ben. The protagonist also has to deal with a mysterious character from his past, and the clues to discover his identity lead him to theRavenloft Institute.
DeMatteis commented on the project, of course, and immediately stressed how the psyche, thoughts and concerns of a person like Ben will be the linchpin of the narrative and how perfect Baldeon’s talent was at being able to do so dynamically depict moments of action and struggles with several enemies that the reader cannot in the least recognize.
