The beginning of the last season ofAttack of the Giants it was pretty turbulent. Recovering from the attack that ended mid-season, Eren Jaeger actually had to face Marley’s forces and most importantly, one of his historical rivals and enemies: Reiner Braun, who was instantly transformed into the armored giant.
The bloody and anticipated rematch between the two got fans thinking about how and how much things have changed compared to the first two seasons when they were still around Neither Eren nor his companions knew the truth about Reiner, Annie and Bertholdt and consequently not even the existence of the nation of Marley. This beginning was anticipated by Yuki Kaji, Eren’s Japanese voice actor, and is deeply connected to the character.
In an interview that took place in late December 2021, Kaji spoke openly about the conflicted relationship between Eren and Reiner, partially focusing on the growth and changes of the protagonist. It was indeed a shock for Jaeger to see Braun “He understood that there was a civilization both inside and outside the walls”, as the voice actor himself explains.
On the other hand, in the first part of the final season, Reiner feels disappointed and guilty himself for surviving, and continues to pursue his intangible sense of justice, just to save to achieve a elusive serenity in the universe created by Isayama. Returning to Eren, Kaji described the amazement the character felt after discovering the world’s history and the curiosity that drove him to Marley.
The voice actor also admitted that he didn’t know beforehand how the story would end and what role Eren would play, and only after reading the full script did he begin rehearsals. the feeling of loss of characterand trying to convey it best through his voice.
In anticipation of the continuation of the anime, we leave you our review of Attack of the Giants 4×18 episode.
