Rozemyne’s ascent through the ranks of nobility has been nothing short of masterful storytelling. Now, the young archduke candidate is preparing for what may be her most visually striking chapter yet.
The production committee behind Ascendance of a Bookworm—or Honzuki no Gekokujo to its Japanese audience—has opted for a rather savvy approach to building anticipation. Rather than dumping all their promotional ammunition at once, they’re playing a longer game.
Every week throughout March, a fresh video trailer will land, each exploring a distinct thematic thread. It’s a strategy that keeps the conversation going rather than peaking too early.

A New Studio Takes the Reins
What makes this season particularly intriguing is the shift behind the camera. Wit Studio—the outfit behind Vinland Saga and Ranking of Kings—has taken over production duties.
That’s not a minor change. Wit has built a reputation for fluid, expressive animation that elevates source material rather than simply adapting it.
Yoshiaki Iwasaki steps into the director’s chair, bringing experience from Hayate the Combat Butler and We Never Learn. He replaces Mitsuru Hongo, who steered the first three seasons.
Continuity remains, though. Mariko Kunisawa returns to steer the scripts, and MICHIRU is back on soundtrack duties. The only significant creative shuffle sees Aiko Minowa taking over character design.
Voice Cast Additions
The voice cast sees both familiar faces and fresh blood. Yuka Iguchi and Show Hayami reprise their roles as Rozemyne and Ferdinand. But the expanding noble circle has drawn serious talent:
- Yukari Tamura (Georgine) — Higurashi and Steins;Gate
- Mami Koyama (Veronica) — Balalaika in Black Lagoon
- Minami Takayama (Forencia) — Detective Conan‘s titular protagonist
- Kazuhiro Yamaji (Bonifatius) — Kenny Ackerman in Attack on Titan
- Nao Toyama (Angelica) — Yui from Oregairu
- Asami Seto (Brigitte) — Jujutsu Kaisen and Bunny Girl Senpai
- Katsumi Fukuhara (Zach) — In Another World With My Smartphone
The Source Material
Miya Kazuki’s original light novels began as a web serial in before transitioning to print with illustrations by You Shiina. The main narrative concluded in at 33 volumes.
The franchise now boasts over 13 million copies in circulation—a testament to how effectively it blended isekai conventions with genuine political intrigue and a protagonist whose greatest weapon was literacy.
Wit Studio’s involvement raises interesting questions about visual ambition. Will they lean into the series’ more theatrical moments, or maintain the intimate tone that defined earlier seasons?
What does Wit Studio’s involvement suggest about the production committee’s long-term expectations for the franchise?
Does a monthly rollout of themed trailers indicate confidence in the material—or awareness that modern audiences need sustained engagement to maintain interest?
