The last few days have been marked by the return of war to Europe. For political reasons, the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine and spread a climate of terror around the world. To dampen the tension, palpable in the air, an artist who Studio Ghibliwho worked for peace.
The Japanese people are the only ones in the world who knew the suffering this caused atomic bomb. Therefore, it is clear that Japanese citizens are the first to avoid new conflicts and want to support peace. Among these there are alsoJapanese animator Nizo Yamamoto, born in Nagasaki, one of the two cities affected by nuclear power. As Studio Ghibli celebrates the theme park’s opening in 2022, one of its animators is fighting the war.
Born just eight years after the bomb went off in his hometown, Yamamoto experienced the aftermath of the war first-hand. The animator was therefore deeply impressed by the news Tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
Committed to fostering a climate of peace, Yamamoto decided to use his profession as a means of spreading harmony. He explained himself in a tweet staunch opponent of the invasion and having thought well about what to do for the Ukrainian people. The Japanese animator intends to make a donation following UNICEF Auction of one of his works of artdeveloped for this occasion.
The proceeds of the illustration, which you will find at the end of the article, will therefore be donated to charity to the population affected by the war. Yamamoto has worked for Studio Ghibli Movies like Princess Mononoke, Laputa Castle in the Sky and The Tomb of the Fireflies. But not only that, he also worked for The Enchanted City and Weathering With You. The animator’s wish is that the flowers of the Miyazaki pictures of Studio Ghibli are born between Russia and Ukraine.
