Today is the 32nd anniversary of the explosion of the Third World War in Akira’s world. The catastrophic event occurred in 1988 with the complete destruction of the city of Tokyo and shaped it in the futuristic version of the manga and the movie.
Katsuiro Ohtomo’s film represents one of the greatest representatives of the cyberpunk genre in Japanese animation. The feature film focuses on a world in which genetic experiments take place that release certain psychological abilities of the individual, including the protagonist Tetsuo.
The film is not intended as a direct adaptation of the mangais a partial version and is considered by many to be confusing. If you want to get closer to the world of Akira for the first time, paperwork is probably the right option.
If on the one hand you don’t like the great staging of the film, On the other hand, the magnificent tables by Ohtomo will not regret your choice. Akira was recently remastered in 4K, but it didn’t just spark some discussions.
Indeed, the excessive cleaning of the images appears to have resulted in an unpleasant loss of detail in both the landscapes and the models of the figures, leading to a widespread blurring effect.
Akira, the producer, says: “The film’s budget was less than a billion.” The artist Skottie Young recently put his inspiration into an illustration by Akira.
