Square Enix has hit the mark with the release of mangaka Fukuda's new work, Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi o Suru, better known by its international title My dress up favorite. Fueled by the anime, which was released on Japanese networks in early 2022, but also by streaming services around the world, the characters went viral.

Marin Kitagawa swept the character popularity charts of the period, confirming that she was the driving force behind the anime in the first place. The aspiring cosplayer, who also draws shy classmate Wakana Gojo into this world, was the focus of the Wishes from fans of My Dress-Up Darling. And it's not just the cosplays and drawings that are causing a stir with this character.

My Dress-Up Darling has also gone viral in Mexico, and there's a fan there who decided to wear one to celebrate his 24th birthday Cake with Marin Kitagawa's face on it. In a Facebook group, the user claims he asked a Soriana supermarket line store to make a cake for his birthday and sent him a picture of Marin Kitagawa to have as a drawing.

"Today I'm 24 and I've been looking forward to it since I was a child. I thought I deserved a special cake with a picture drawn on it I sent Marin Kitagawa on an assignment and they gave me this crap". As can be seen in the image below, the technically edible drawing has nothing to do with the character from the anime.

Obviously it has sparked a range of positive and negative comments, among those who leave it at the work of the supermarket line, with someone caustic to say that "the design is from the author of Attack on Titan" who complains to the fan asking for an idiocy for his 24 years and that should grow. But it certainly underscores just how much the character has achieved as sales of My Dress-Up Darling continue to grow.

Sweety Otaku

One of the best parts of watching anime is how many times a show can surprise you. Sometimes for good, sometimes for bad. But if the Otaku know one thing, it's that anything is possible.
