The manga Akane-Banashi created by Yuki sounds and Takamasa Moue will have an anime adaptation scheduled for release in 2026. The official project website has been launched, confirming the news and providing a teaser trailer and promotional image.
The production team behind the anime adaptation includes:
- Akane Osaki will be voiced by Anna Nagase (Natsuko in Zenshu).
- Karashi Nerimaya will be voiced by Takuya Eguchi (Loid in Spy X Family).
- Hikaru Koragi will be voiced by Rie Takahashi (Yuzuriha in Hell’s Paradise).
The series will be directed by Ayumu Watanabe (Summer Time Rendering) at ZEXCS. The script will be supervised by Michihiro Tsuchiya (Saint Cecilia & Pastor Lawrence), while character design and animation direction will be handled by Kii Tanaka (ZOM 100: BUCKET LIST OF THE DEAD). The soundtrack will be composed by Akio Izutsu (Akuma Kun), and Kikuhiko Hayashiya will serve as a Rakugo supervisor.
A story that pays tribute to Rakugo
Akane-Banashi focuses on Akane, a young woman who receives informal classes from Shiguma Arakawa, an ancient teacher of her father. Akane decides to take the art of Rakugo — a traditional Japanese form of oral narration — and start her path from the opening functions (Zenza) until becoming a main artist (Shin’uchi).
Akane’s journey will not be simple, as she must balance her school life, her relations with other learners of Shiguma, and demonstrate her talent and determination to highlight in this demanding scenic art. The English version of the manga is officially published by Medium Viz.
