The producer Kadokawa confirmed that the anime will only have eight episodes (vs. usual TV anime length of 11-13 episodes), as the production specifically wanted to increase quality by telling a more compact story with fewer episodes. It is worth remembering that this new season will feature a completely different story than the first season and the feature film.
The franchise began by releasing a free browser card game developed by Kadokawa games and expelled from DMM.com. The game launched in Japan in April 2013 and had three million registered users in just two years. The episode later inspired a studios-produced anime adaptation of twelve episodes. Summary of the Kantai Collection
With the seas under constant threat from the enemy’s “Abyssal Fleet”, a specialized naval base is set up specifically to deal with them. However, instead of standard naval weapons, the base is outfitted with the “Kanmusu,” maidens who harbor the spirits of Japan’s most famous warships. Fubuki, a young Kanmusu-type destroyer, joins the base as a new recruit; Unfortunately, despite her inexperience and timid nature, she is assigned to the infamous Third Torpedo Squadron and quickly sent into combat. When she is saved from near-annihilation, the little rookie warship resolves to become as powerful as the person who saved her life.
