To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Dragon Ball, Shueisha organized the Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project. Shonen Jump’s best mangaka have been invited to this initiative, which will last until 2024, including Tetsuya Endo from the recent hit Spy-X family.
L’timeless work by Akira Toriyama redefined the fighting shonen canons and inspired many mangakas today. To pay tribute to the saga that will give birth to a new anime movie in this year 2022, the best artists of Shueisha reinterpret the covers of the Dragon Ball tankards in their own way. 42 authors, for 42 covers, for 42 months.
The Dragon Ball Super Gallery project started with the cover of Kishimoto, but this time it’s about a new face of the Japanese publisher. Tetsuya Endo from the Spy X family recreated in his style the cover of the 15th volume of Dragon Ball, which shows Goku and Krillin aboard a racing car. Endo’s cover isn’t very far from the original, and the only differences can be seen in the more “realistic” characterization of the characters.
The Spy X Family author’s work follows that of Kenta Shinohara, who redesigned the cover of Vol. 7 in the Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project. In this case, the sket dance mangaka had chosen an rand more drastic interpretation.
