The famous manga Shonen ha inspired by the greatest and most famous contemporary mangaka – including Eiichiro Oda (ONE PIECE), Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), Tite Kubo (Bleach) and last but not least Hiro Mashima (Fairy Tail).
Dragon Ball made its debut on the pages of the prestigious Japanese magazine known as Weekly Shonen jump on November 20, 1984only to end almost eleven years later. But our journey to rediscover the origins of the manga begins about four centuries earlier, at the time when one of the four great classics of Chinese literature was published: βThe Journey to the Westβ.
However, Dragon Ball’s huge success didn’t come until later when it began the saga of the 21st Tenkaichi tournament, that is the mythical martial arts tournament in which Goku, Krillin, Yamcha and Master Roshi (to whom Toriyama assigned the fictional name Jackie Chun, which obviously comes from his beloved Jackie Chan) participated.
The manga ended on Volume 42 when Toriyama tried to take a break, but what he still didn’t know was that his absolute masterpiece would continue to develop like wildfire for another three decades (and beyond that, considering the phenomenon isn’t going to die out anytime soon), inspirational animated feature films, not always canonical sequels, OAVs, an abundance of video games, and much more, and each time hitting the favor of several generations of fans from all Corners of the world.
