A popular comment forum in Japan reported that the latest episode of the anime adaptation of the manga Kanojo mo Kanojo (Girlfriend, girlfriend) changed the original events of the story. According to the entry, the episode has adapted chapters 37 and 38 of the original manga and part of chapters 19 and 20. The comment writes:
«With that precedent, Naoya should have hugged Nagisa dressed as a maid in the scene in question. In the animation, however, he simply stroked her head. It could be or that they were ahead of the events and thought it would not be congruent to show that level of intimacy now. I’ve endured poor character designs and a semi-mediocre art style, but modifying the story is unforgivable.».
Another user has put together the original chapters of the manga, which have been adapted in the project to date:
- Episode 1 – Chapters 1 to 3 (3 chapters).
- Episode 2 – Chapters 4 to 7 (4 chapters).
- Episode 3 – Chapters 8 to 10 (3 chapters).
- Episode 4 – Chapters 11 to 13 (3 chapters).
- Episode 5 – Chapters 14 and 15 (2 chapters).
- Episode 6 – Chapters 16 to 18 (3 chapters).
- Episode 7 – Chapters 37 and 38, as well as the beginning of Chapters 19 and 20 (3 chapters).
The animated adaptation has been broadcasting in Japan since July 2nd and has been confirmed with twelve episodes, while the platform Crispy roll takes care of sales in the west. For his part, Hiroyuki began publishing the manga through the magazine Weekly Shonen magazine from the publisher Kodansha in March 2020.
Summary of Kanojo mo Kanojo
After Naoya Mukai had an unrequited love for several years, she finally gets a date with her childhood friend Saki Saki. However, when he tries to get involved in this relationship, he receives an abrupt confession from Nagisa Minase.
Naoya tries to reject her at first, but is soon overwhelmed by the feeling of not wanting to hurt her. In order not to abuse his girlfriend’s trust, Naoya comes up with a “solution” to make both happy: going out with both of them. Of course, Saki rejects the idea, but through Naoya and Nagisa’s persistence, she eventually accepts. This begins a three-headed romance between Naoya, his girlfriend, and his other girlfriend, who from the start have had a relationship that deviates from the social norm.
