As the older generation of great Japanese directors nears their end and icons like Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Oshii and Hideaki Anno slowly move towards the final phase of their careers, a new generation of directors is stepping forward, and among the ambassadors it is impossible not to mention Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai.
In this regard, the Japanese side is Screen 1 recently conducted a survey with the aim of finding out Which of these two directors is most valued by the public in the land of the rising sun?, and invited hundreds of viewers between the ages of 10 and 69 to express a preference on the official website. The results were really amazing.

Overall, Mamoru Hosoda collected 52.2% of the preferences while Shinkai received 47.8%. of the numbers that represent a substantial parity.
