Chapter 4: Parents and Children

Subaru wakes up in her room in her parents' house. Surrounded by books, sleeves, figures and posters, he looks around strangely if it is the place he should know best. His father appears with the intention of waking his son with affection, albeit very abruptly. It's time for breakfast at the Natsuki, and her mother tells her to sit at the table.

After a hot and pleasant family meal, Subaru rushes back to bed. However, a feeling in his chest attacks him every time he thinks about what to do, but refuses to do it. As he thinks about the feeling in his chest, his father enters his room to speak to his son. Natsuki Kenichi has only one question and he doesn't hesitate a minute to communicate it: Subaru, do you like someone?

Kenichi's intentions are clear: he wants to know the reasons for Subaru's behavior. He invites him for a walk in the park, where Subaru shows that he is not as naive as his father thinks. The boy begins to talk about his past and how he has relentlessly chased and repeatedly failed the shadow of his perfect father. Then she remembers everything: she likes someone and she is a friendly white-haired half-elf girl.

The next day Subaru is ready to take charge of his own life. His loving mother is concerned about the difficulties her son will face; Natsuki Naoko knows her son better than he knows himself. After talking to his mother, Subaru finally says goodbye to the people who have always looked after him. He remembers everything and knows that maybe he will never see her again.

opinion

Loaded with a variety of emotions, Chapter 4 of Subject: Zero 2 We are surprised with the development of the main character. As part of The Sanctuary Trial, where it was said at the end of the previous chapter that it would be to face its past, Subaru should see itself in its own world again. A more than strange situation, as the motivations of the protagonist have never been discussed in the series.

This is how we meet Subaru's parents, the two most important people he left behind in this world. Suburu does not remember her adventures in the world of Emilia, but seems to retain the strength that she has achieved with so many experiences. This enabled his parents to intervene as a son, where they not only reminded him how much they love him, but also gave us some of the most beautiful scenes Re: zero. Everything is decorated with a slightly shiny, slightly blurred fabric that reminds us that this is just a dream.

More than a dream

What appears to be the first phase of "The Sanctuary Trial" that Subaru is facing is the focus of Chapter 4 of Subject: Zero 2. As we can see, Subaru has to face what hurt him in the past and what torments him to this day. A test class that is fairly classic in the so-called Shounen genre, and overcoming it almost always means awakening a new potential that has never been seen before.

However, I very much doubt that it will be time to see a Subaru brutally kicked on the ass. That is not the approach that Re: zero there is its protagonist. But what we're going to see is a much more focused Subaru, without quickly becoming obsessed with always being useful. A protagonist who understands where his true strength is and asks for help when the situation is beyond his reach.

What did Subaru carry on his back? It's easy to explain, complex to deal with, and also a situation that's more than you had to experience in real life. Suburu always wanted to be like his perfect father. A man with diverse skills that distinguish him in many areas. Kind to people and admired by many, including his own son.

There is nothing wrong with following the example of a person you admire. However, it is always dangerous to do something to the utmost. Subaru's case is understandable because the people around him subconsciously place the difficult burden of looking like his father. Maybe they didn't do it with that in mind, but that's how it worked in Subaru's head. A situation that did not favor his own abilities (or maybe his luck) did not allow him to stand out from the crowd as he wished.

I want to be important to you

Of the details that left Subaru in the wrong position last season, the most notorious is undoubtedly his temperament. There are many comments that offended the boy because he was so selfish in the situations before him. Now Chapter 4 of Subject: Zero 2has shed a little more light on the main character so that we can empathize more with his impulsive actions.

Subaru lived his life and thought that the most important thing was to stand out in everything. However, when he noticed that someone was surpassing him, his self-image sank. There was no point in being good at an activity, he had to be the best. Everyone had to admire him like his father. In the end he had given up on this task, but he had an opportunity that gave him hope: he was sent to a fantasy world.

We all know what the protagonists of Isakai will be. You become heroes. That was Subaru's new goal, to become the hero and to recognize him by everyone. And he did it a few times, which increased his own ego. His series (or lucky shots) wouldn't hesitate forever. Everything works for a manga hero, however impulsive he is, but that's pure fantasy.

Her intervention in the meeting of the Queen candidates, the fight against Julius, the fight with Emilia, her rejection of Reinhard and the differences with the other candidates. These are examples of moments when Subaru found that impulsive actions tend to have negative results. What salvation of a person does not give you the right to demand something from him? that a real hero can also be wrong. A reality hit that brought Subaru back to the defeated state he was in before being transported. You had a better face today.

Be yourself

Subaru is very mature compared to the boy who has just arrived in the world of Emilia. The blows he has suffered in such a cruel world and far from being as peaceful as his beloved Japan have given him a lot of wisdom. We also have to remember that he was lucky enough to find people who were willing to take care of him and who are now as important to him as he is.

This is what Subaru's parents noticed. Her son, who woke up this morning, was not the same person who had been living with them for several months. It was notorious that something had hit him hard and that he had great support so as not to get stuck. It was the perfect opportunity for her. Subaru looked better, but he still has a long way to go to say that he has overcome all of his fears.

Chapter 4 of Re: zero 2 had two important central scenes. The conversation with the father and the conversation with the mother. When talking to his father, Subaru confronted the figure that had suppressed him so, and he was honest. Speaking to his mother, he found that he didn't have to try to be as good as his father. Half of what he inherited from him was enough to be considered his son. Otherwise it could only be Subaru.

A nice episode that reminds us of the importance of parents. That we are a sum of many things, but that we are mainly the sum of these people. And that we, like Subaru, are ourselves children of those who brought us up, brought us up and looked after us. You didn't have to do anything for us, we had to do something for you.

Conclusions

I repeat chapter 4 of Subject: Zero 2 It was wonderful. We have had such emotional scenes that caused more than one scream, and that is always appreciated. The anime teaches us a lot of things like patsus, big oppais and the occasional controversial scene. But it also teaches us to feel other people with their emotionally charged stories and to put themselves in them. With the anime, we scream with emotions, cry with sadness and sometimes with joy. A series of experiences that I have not felt on this level with any other medium that tells stories.

In short, Subaru still has a long way to go and we still don't know what else he will have to overcome "The Sanctuary Trial". The boy will continue to grow when he faces the difficulties of this world that has kidnapped him and welcomed him again. For now, she received a big reward for having dealt satisfactorily with her past: an echidna in school uniform! How did you like Chapter 4 of? Subject: Zero 2?
