Chapter 4: “March of All Units”

Dr. Stone returns to Tsukasa’s army for another week with Nikki’s advice. Our protagonists already know Hyoga, but Ukyou is a powerful enemy with his exceptional hearing and other skills. Meanwhile, Chrome lets himself be caught by Ukyou when he realizes that the arrows never reach them. Face to face with Tsukasa, the young man summons up his courage and challenges him to be a scientist. However, they consider him a simple savage. Despite the threats, Chrome remains stuck and does not reveal any information. To her surprise, Ukyou also lies about where she found her and hides the phone’s location.

When Magma returns to the village, Senku makes the decision to advance all together towards the Tsukasa Empire and load all equipment. He admits they’ll build a car with an oscillating steam engine. Thanks to the molds made with beeswax and plaster of paris, he gets the metal parts of the mechanism and prepares the engine by reusing one of the ovens.

Dr. Stone It shows us once again that Senku has no limits in his enormous ambition and creative freedom. In this new Stone Age it was proposed to take the leap in a dizzying period of time that had taken human civilization two million years to develop. His fighting spirit, insatiable thirst, and extraordinary intelligence led him to create the kingdom of science. He tamed soap, metal and chemistry, achieved electricity and designed a cellphone. Given the trajectory, will some of his ideas surprise us? Are we going to question their ability to do them?

A fundamental premise of Dr. Stone is that science is a chain, discovery and invention drive each other. Once we start developing civilization, we will never start over. In this episode, this idea is saved by reusing the stove and beeswax.

With this in mind, it should be remembered that from the start, the plot was designed to immerse us in the history and achievements of man and to surprise us while laughing and enjoying the adventures of his characters. It’s simple and powerful, science in a fantasy world.

Chrome’s stance needs at least one more guess for full analysis, but it’s hands down David versus Goliath – versus an army of Goliaths – and he’s ready to die for his ideas. The giants underestimate the savage.

On the flip side, Ukyou – whom I greatly appreciated for – has surprises in store for those who haven’t read the manga. Boichi and Inagaki They know how to play with their characters, endow them with certain personalities, but the main trait of this young man has to wait for the next chapter.

Finally

The key to falling in love Dr. Stone it is in the set of components of its action. It’s Shounen, he doesn’t deny it, and it has all the charms of the genre (stereotypes, yes, that don’t necessarily make a story bad). However, within this children’s game “fairy tale”, it is an ode to knowledge and extremely serious work in terms of the scientific method.

The chapter follows the trend of the previous one and closes with the spectacular visual metaphor of the structure of the steam engine. Chrome is spirited and it’s David versus an army of Goliaths. In the meantime, Ukyou, discreet and mysterious, is the epicenter of doubts and surprises.
