Akira Toriyama is now considered one of the most important and influential mangaka in the history of Japanese comics, and as for his works, dragon ball Expand with new projects at first, he hasn’t drawn his characters in years. But what is the real reason for the resignation of the master? let’s find out

For years, many passionate readers of his work have wondered why Toriyama stopped drawing and making after 2013’s Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, a character who later appeared in the Dragon Ball Super series, and working alongside Toyotaro for the latter new manga. The reason seems to be related to this Disappearance of a wooden pen that Toriyama was particularly fond ofwhich was lost during the production of Sand Land, the film based on its series and published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2000.

About two years ago, details about the pen in question surfaced, as you can read in @derekepadula’s tweet below, where Toriyama revealed he had it bought this pen when he was 14 years old, and had used it for every drawing ever since and for all the years of his incredible career. “I bought a new pen and tried different ways of working with it, but it just didn’t seem right. Since then I’ve been using it as an excuse not to draw manga anymore‘ the master commented, laughing.
