A year ago, Panini Comics first announced the release of a new edition of Akira, the iconic manga by Katsuhiro Otomo, which in the late 1980s preceded the spread of manga in the West. Today, after 365 days of waiting, Planet Manga has finally announced the official release date of the first two volumes.

Akira’s first volume will be available in comic book stores and the Panini Comics online shop from next MarchThe second volume appears the following month in April. We remind you that there will be six volumes in total and that this new edition you can browse them from right to leftpurely Japanese style. At the moment, the price of the individual collections was not given, but last year Amazon stopped pre-ordering 22 euros per band.

Akira is a historical work and has been a pillar of the cyberpunk genre for at least thirty years. In Japan, the manga is still a commercial success to this dayso much so that Kodansha announced a few months ago that the series would get its hundredth reprint for the first time in the publisher’s history.
