On August 19th in Japan the manga was written and illustrated by Rei Hiroe, Black lagoon, released its twelfth compiled volume. Why is that important? Well, it is the first compilation volume of this manga to be published after almost three years! The eleventh anthology was published in Japan on November 24, 2018, and a new illustrated book with the title βBlack lagoon rush illustration collection“.
On the other hand, Hiroe started to publish the manga in the magazine Monthly Sunday GX from the publisher Shogakukan in April 2002. In a recent update, Hiroe noted that his depression hasn’t gone away, so he can’t work as much as he’d like. The author has been struggling with depression for a decade, which has resulted in extended pauses between the release of new chapters of the work.
The piece inspired a twelve-part anime adaptation produced by the studios. Madhouse, directed and scripts written by Sunao Katabuchi, released in April 2006. A second season, also with twelve episodes, was released in October 2006. So far there is no information to confirm the planning of new animation projects for this franchise.
