Kenpachi Zaraki is one of the main characters in Bleach. He is the captain of the 11th Division of the Gotei 13 and is known for his strength and fighting prowess. Kenpachi is a very interesting character, ruthless and brutal, with a fighting instinct gained after many fights. But he’s not the first kenpachi, and to become the strongest he had to face his own predecessor: Unohana Kenpachi, known as Unohana Retsu.

Unohana Retsu is one of the characters from the original Gotei 13 of the series and it takes a long time to discover his true nature. She is the captain of the fourth division, mainly with medical duties. Initially, Unohana is portrayed as a kind and compassionate woman, but in Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War it is revealed that she is in fact one of the most powerful and fearsome warriors in the shinigami world.

Unohana Kenpachi is the name Unohana Retsu takes when he decides to fight. In this way, Unohana reveals that he is the first kenpachi, or the strongest warrior with a sword in the world of shinigami.
