On social networks, several users expressed their indignation when they realized that the animated adaptation of the manga was through Ken Wakui, Tokyo Revengershas been censored for broadcast outside of Japan. The censorship includes a variety of lighting effects, close-ups and even deleted scenes behind a black screen with the aim of not showing a representative symbol of the franchise on the screen.

To understand the situation, it should be noted that the name of the band in Japan is "Tokyo Manji Gang“What is written in Japanese as 東京 卍 會, Using a Sauastika (卍) for your writing. It doesn't take much thought to determine why the symbol needed to be censored outside of Japan as it could easily be confused with that Swastika (卐), which is often associated with National Socialism, although they are completely different. Below is the version broadcast first in Japan without censorship, and later the version released for the West.

The platform Crunchyrollwho airs the series for Latin America also aired the censored version of the latest episode (the version aired in Japan is not censored), and fans are not only concerned about the icon that represents the band on which filming the entire series is subject to censorship as it greatly affects the visual impact of the series and, most importantly, the public's approval.

A video is circulating on Twitter showing a scene and the immense work of censorship that has been applied: «Distributed Version VS Uncensored Version. It's a scandal! Such censorship is not possible. This is clearly an abuse!! Even the close-ups are normal, but long shots and a black background, we just can't accept that! The community clearly deserves it better!"Wrote the account. The video even shows entire scenes that are cut off and covered with a black screen transition.

The series has aired on various television channels in Japan since April 10, and the number of episodes has not yet been confirmed. For his part, Wakui began to publish the manga in the magazine Weekly Shonen Magazine from the publisher Kodansha in March 2017. The work is said to have more than fifteen million copies in circulation.
