The production team had announced on April 25 that the broadcast of new episodes would be delayed indefinitely due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan on production.

The series premiered on April 4. For his part, Mitsuda began publishing the manga in the magazine. Weekly Shonen Sunday from the publisher Shogakukan in March 2015, and the publisher published the nineteenth compilation volume on April 16.

The play is a sequel to the manga Major, written and illustrated by Takuya Mitsuda, and published in Shogakukan editorial Weekly Shonen Sunday between August 1994 and July 2010, with a total of 78 compilation volumes. This manga inspired a 154-episode anime adaptation produced by Studio Hibari and released in November 2004.
