One escape, many children in a dark forest, a huge monster that wants to devour them. The beginning of The Promised Neverland 2 was quick and heart pounding, but then gave way to hasty scenes and made it through in a very different way than the manga, the basis of the CloverWorks adaptation.

Already in the first episode you could notice some differences from the original work, but in the third episode the production decides to take The Promised Neverland 2 on completely different tracks, which amazes those who expected a more or less faithful implementation of the story of Kaiu Shirai. What are the differences introduced so far?

  • Many of the animals seen in the forest, many of which are inspired by aquatic life such as jellyfish, do not exist in the manga.
  • Right at the start of the escape, Grace Field’s children fall into Alvarpinera’s snake trap, resulting in a short mini-story arc that is completely discarded in the anime.
  • When Mujika greets Emma and gives her the mysterious locket, he also warns her to look for “the seven walls”.
  • In the third episode of The Promised Neverland 2Ă—03, Sonju reveals the weak point of a demon to the children before they say goodbye. It’s not he in the manga who reveals but the character of Hugo;;
  • It was Hugo himself who should have appeared at the children’s entrance to the B06-32 shelter. In the surveillance room he is sitting on a chair with his feet on the table, a broken cup in his hands and some cookies. In the anime, all of this was completely eliminated, leaving room for moldy cookies, a seemingly intact mug, and no person in the shelter.
  • As a result, Hugo’s entire introduction is omitted and the part about exploring the refuge is completely rewritten.
  • In the letter the boys find in the manga in the library rather than in the surveillance room, there is an explicit reference from Minerva to the location of Goldy Pond in the anime, in which she is completely absent;
  • In the hall, children will not discover the secret passage hidden by the piano. but it will be Hugo who will reveal it. In addition, this passage in the manga leads only to the arsenal of refuge and not to another series of tunnels;
  • The tunnels are discovered later at the beginning of the final phase of the story.
  • The same goes for the room with the phone, it also comes into reality featured only in the third story arc of The Promised Neverland;;
  • In the anime, they added the ability to tune in to Grace Field’s shows thanks to a radio, an option that wasn’t in the original manga.
  • On the wall that Anna and Yvette discovered in the last few seconds of the episode, the word “help” is actually not in the middle. but the word “poacher”, hunter. Additionally, the setting is undone in the manga as it is Hugo’s room, while in the anime it appears to be quite neat.

This can mean that The Promised Neverland anime has plans to completely eliminate the second story arc, that of Goldy Pond, with all related references and characters. The next few episodes will confirm or not CloverWorks’ willingness to move on to a totally original story and possibly bring the series to a close with this second season.
