On March 5, 2021, the folks at WIT Studio launched a Kickstarter companion to fund a new anime project for The Girl from the Other Side and asked fans for 3 million yen (โ‚ฌ 20,000) to start working . Today, May 9, 2021, the campaign is finally over, and The studio received a total of over 20 million yen.

WIT Studio, fresh from the excellent work with Vinland Saga and Great Pretender, stated that after the great success of the OAD (Original Anime DVD) of 2019, they wanted to do an adaptation of Nagabe's manga. The DVD in question was attached with volume 8 of the manga and made for the occasion WIT had experimented with an extremely original animation technique, by director Yutaro Kubo as "the only way to breathe life into a similar work".

Nagabe's manga finally ended on March 5th with the release of Volume 11 and the same day WIT Studio did it opened the companion Kickstarter and asked fans to support the project. The milestone was reached in 24 hours, and in the weeks that followed, the campaign surpassed the 13, 16 and 20 million yen route targets that were later added due to the unexpected amount of donations.

The girl from the other side will receive an OAD movie on March 10, 2022, along with the spin-off manga due to be released in Japan on the same day. All donors who have paid at least 9,980 yen (approx. โ‚ฌ 76) will receive manga and DVDs at home, the second in Japanese and English subtitles. The achieved route goals enabled the studio to work on a 30-second animated short film and to include a booklet behind the scenes in the DVD box. Among other things, the English dubbing and the creation of a special chapter of the manga exclusively for donors were confirmed.
