In a recent leak by Yonkou Productions, a well-known Twitter user who is usually correct in his leaks, it was announced that a third season of the anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Umino Girl, 3-gatsu no Lion is in production. The information has not been confirmed.

Umino started publishing the manga in the magazine Young Animal from the publisher Hakusensha in July 2007. The publisher published the fifteenth compilation volume on December 26. The work inspired a 22-episode anime adaptation, produced by the studios. Shaft under the direction of Kenjirou Okada and scripts written by Yukito Kizawa, and released in October 2016. A 22-episode second season premiered in October 2017. In addition, the manga also inspired a two-part live-action film released in March and April 2017.

Synopsis for 3-gatsu no Lion

Having achieved professional status in high school, Rei Kiriyama is one of the few elite players in the shogi world. Because of this, he faces both the shogi community and his adoptive family. Seeking independence from his tense way of life, he moves to an apartment in Tokyo. Being a 17-year-old boy living on his own, Rei tends to take very little care of himself, and his reclusive personality excludes him from his schoolmates and other shogi players.

However, shortly after her arrival in Tokyo, Rei meets Akari, Hinata, and Momo Kawamoto, a trio of sisters who live with their grandfather in a traditional wagashi store. Akari, the older sister, is determined to combat Rei's loneliness and lacking lifestyle with her mother attitude. The Kawamoto sisters, coping with past tragedies, share a unique family bond that Rei has lacked throughout her life.
