The original writer of the animated series of PokémonTakeshi Shudo was quite blown away by the producers’ willingness to continue the anime for another 10 years. The author took the news so badly that he ended up in hospital.

In fact, the writer had other plans for the future of the series. He was determined to end the adventures of Team Rocket, Ash and his friends, and then continue the narrative with a new following of characters.

The producers disagreed with this view, did not want to diverge from Ash’s character and were willing to continue his adventure indefinitely. Shaken by this decision, Shudo was hospitalized, ironically together with the spectators who had suffered an epileptic shock due to the Porygon episode.

Eventually Shudo left the series after five years of writinga, both of the television series and of the feature films, while the Pokémon anime has continued to move forward on the solid foundations of Ash and Team Rocket, introducing here and there new contour characters.

Shudo’s vision was certainly more romantic, and showed a sincere passion on the part of the author towards the project. There is no doubt, in fact, that the first iterations of the Pokémon anime, together with the feature films, are perhaps the most successful from a creative point of view.
