Like every self-respecting Shonen classic, so does the plot of My Hero Academy it is based on the development of the bond between the work’s protagonist and his deuteragonist. Midoriya and Bakugo are born childhood friends, but what we see at the beginning of the story is a relationship that is far from idyllic.
When they were two kids with no quirks Izuku and Katsuki played Heroes together, who dreams of one day becoming as strong as the deified All Might. However, when the unity manifested in Bakugo, their relationship fell apart.
Bakugo was considered a child prodigy, everyone praised him and assured him that one day he would become a great Pro Hero. For this reason, Kacchan began to develop a superiority complex which convinced him that everyone else was inferior to him, especially his ex-girlfriend Midoriya. However, the latter continued to stretch out his hand, trying to help him and stay close to him. The friendlier Izuku acted, the more Bakugo’s anger took over. This one eventually exploded when Midoriya saved it from the rogue slime just before entering the Yuei. By the way, here is the meaning of the Deku nickname in My Hero Academia.
Deku continued to see Bakugo as his great childhood friend, even going so far as to do so tell him her most intimate secretthe one on One For All. Classmates, the two were forced to coexist and share joys and sorrows, and eventually Bakugo slowly gave in.
Bakugo has started to recognize Deku as a true rival and for this reason to no longer treat him as a rejected but as a worthy opponent. This evolutionary process culminated in Bakugo’s rise in My Hero Academia 6×9, when Kacchan reacted instinctively to save his friend’s life. In the next few episodes, the two will also have the opportunity to clarify their relationship.
