Yoshiyuki Tomino he has never wasted himself on teasing himself like that on Demon Slayer. The lively creator of Mobile SUit Gundam then openly declared war on the series. This time Tomino said in an interview: "Japan is no longer an advanced country when it comes to animation".

The exhibition "The World of Yoshiyuki Tomino: Gundam, Ideon and Now" (organized by HBC Hokkaido Broadcasting and Hokkaido Shimbun) will take place from November 17 to January 23, 2022 at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art in Chuo-ku, Sapporo. The animation director Yoshiyuki Tomino, 80, creator of the series "Gundam", visited the museum and shared his thoughts on the exhibition and made this controversial statement.

Then? For Tomino it isRise in Chinese animation and lack of support from Japan's politicians. Tomino says he went to Beijing University 10 years ago to give a talk on animation and was surprised at the number of enthusiastic students. Now, 10 years later, he says: Many of these students are now professionals working in the Chinese animation industry.

Meanwhile the director says: Japanese politicians still think of Japanese animation as they did 30 or 40 years ago, a kind of laissez-faire attitude that the government doesn't support the industry with. On the contrary, says Tomino, the Chinese government is actively working to support the animation industry.

"I feel a sense of crisis if we keep doing animation from a business perspective, we are completely overtaken by our Beijing colleagues"said Tomino.
