A few days ago, the fan world was shaken by the news of Leiji Matsumoto’s death legendary author of Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999 and other famous works. Several other authors joined in the condolences, including Koji Morimoto.
Matsumoto died of heart failure on February 13, 2023 at the age of 85. The community had to say that Farewell to one of the most influential authors of the eightieswho shaped and influenced the medium with his stories.
Many personalities from the world of manga and anime came to say farewell to Leiji Matsumoto, including the last one Koji Morimoto. A well-known anime director, he worked as an animator for the 1988 Akira film and well-known anime series such as City Hunter and Ken the Warrior. He was also co-founder of the animation studio Studio 4°C.
Morimoto, who shared the stage and spotlight with Matsumoto, albeit in a different way, paid his respects to his colleague for the final time by publishing a beautiful illustration. The director posted on his official Twitter a artwork he created depicting Captain Harlock in his style. The draw will be accompanied by a final salute which reads as follows: “Dedicated with my condolences to Leiji Matsumoto.”
