That Dragonball covers are impressed by everyone who has approached the manga thanks to the epic story of Akira Toriyama. The mangaka has not only drawn 42 for the original story over the years, but also others for the various special editions, for data books, and other additional material.
Fans have often voted for the best Dragon Ball covers ever drawn by Akira Toriyama, but what’s next? if they have been reviewed by other authors, obviously with a different, completely different drawing style? This has been happening for a few years thanks to a project created by Shueisha to celebrate his most famous story and which has brought it to the Olympus of publishing houses.
That The Dragon Ball Super Gallery project is actually still ongoing: In recent months, there have been covers designed by Tadatoshi Fujimaki, Kyosuke Usuta, and many other mangakas. In these hours, however, cover number 18 was unveiled, that is, with the eighteenth mangaka to join the project. The mangaka best known for To-Love-Ru, Black Cat, Darling in the Franxx and now Ayakashi Triangle has decided to take part in the tribute to Akira Toriyama.
Yabuki redesigned the cover of Dragon Ball 31, when the series was in the midst of the android saga. And in fact, the change of style sees the C16, C17 and C18 as the protagonists of this different type of design. The twins C17 and C18 are in front while behind is a car with C16 leaning on it. However, it is missing Cell, which was in the original design instead, as can be seen from the comparison available in the gallery below on the right of the image.
Do you prefer Kentaro Yabuki’s version or do you prefer Akira Toriyama’s drawing for Dragon Ball Volume 31?
