While you wait to find out whether or not your film can get an Oscar nomination for 2021, Studio Ufotable can get the partying started Demon Slayer: Infinity Train managed to win a nomination for the prestigious 44th Japan Academy Film Award, the Japanese equivalent of the Academy Awards.
The film by Haruo Sotozaki will compete in the "Best Animated Film" category together with five other high-quality feature films. The winners will be announced at Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan on the night of March 19th.
The nominees for the title of best animated film are as follows:
- Demon Slayer: Infinity Train
- Violet Evergarden: The Movie
- Josee, the tiger and the fish
- Stand by me at Doraemon 2
- Poupelle from Chimney Town
Demon Slayer: Infinity Train is the big favorite, though Kyoto Animation's Violet Evergarden turned out to be a huge hit, as did the excellent steampunk film Poupelle of Chimney Town, which is currently in fourth place at the Japanese box office. Ufotables Film also received a nomination in the "Best Score" categoryHere the composer Yuki Kajiura and the composer Go Shiina, authors of the piece Kamado Tanjiro no Uta, compete against each other.
The winner of the award for the best animated film will put his name on the roll of honor, a very prestigious award most coveted by Japanese authors. Last year the crown rested on the head of Weathering with youwhile it was in 2019 Mirai.
