At the moment, the anime Attack of the Giants is adapting the events described in volume 28 and is concluded with the implementation of chapter 116 exactly in the middle of volume 29. There will only be spoilers for events that have already taken place in the anime, without reference to the manga.

  • paradise

At the end of season three, after forcing the giant beast and the other fighters from Marley to retreat, the residents of Paradise Island acquired the power of the colossal giant and saved Armin Arlert’s life by allowing him to devour Bertholdt. Then the reconnaissance army was able to enter Grisha Jaeger’s basement and find out information about the origin of the giants. For more information on the events, see our first in-depth study.

Paradise realizes he must defend himself against the onslaught of the Marley nation, which is out to kill all of the island’s residents, and the only plausible option seems to be Zeke Jaeger’s plan, who for some reason is intent seems to be helping his former enemies. We talked specifically about Zeke Jaeger’s plan in a second study, but essentially it is about harnessing the power of Eren to awaken the giants present within the Walls of Paradise in order to discourage Marley’s attack and gain time to to place oneself on the same level technological and military fronts.

Eren is initially against the plan because it provides for Historia, the queen of the island, to inherit the giant beast and bring forth as many heirs as possible given the power of coordinate (necessary to awaken the giants within the walls) only can work when Eren comes into contact with the power of the giants with a descendant of royal blood, but later changes his mind for reasons unknown.

Paradise’s goal is to survive, but on the one hand it must defend itself against Marley’s attack, on the other hand it must understand the true intentions of the Jaeger brothers. Currently, this faction includes Queen Historia Reiss, Army Commander Dot Pyxis (who succeeded Daris Zackely after the attack in episode 4×13), Reconnaissance Army Commander Hange Zoe, Captain Levi Ackerman and all the soldiers we are met in the first seasons, namely Mikasa, Armin, Connie, Jean and so on.

  • Jaegeristen

A year after Zeke’s request for cooperation, Hange suggests conducting a scouting operation in Marley, infiltrating and looking for weaknesses. However, Eren decides to act alone after secretly meeting former Marleyan Yelena thanks to the intervention of a soldier, Floch Forster. At the moment, the conversation between the two is shrouded in shadow, but ten months after the incident, Eren decides to attack Marley.

Eren’s plan has two goals: to bring Zeke Jaeger to paradise and to get as many shapeshifters as possible. As soon as he arrives in the town of Liberius (in Marley), Eren sends letters to Paradise with Falco, ordering the army to help him, as his death would mean the loss of the attacking giant and the founder, and with it a certain defeat for all of the descendants Eldia.

The break with Paradise happens precisely for this reason. The army does not trust Zeke, but since Historia has become pregnant it is not yet possible to kill him and pass the power of the giant animal on to the queen. Additionally, the army discovers that Eren has spoken privately to both Yelena and Zeke, and since neither of the three apparently wants to reveal what they discussed, the army decides to imprison Eren and find a replacement to inherit his powers .

Jaegerists are born from here. The members of this faction are the Jaeger brothers, Yelena and all members of the army who consider the actions of Paradise to be too slow and ineffective, including Floch. The goal of the components is to restore Eldia’s power and revenge on Marley, but there may be hidden reasons for the alliance between the Jaeger brothers that only the two and Yelena seem to know about.

  • Marley

Originally, Marley’s plan was to take revenge on the actions the Eldians had committed for hundreds of years, which massacred and subjugated entire populations with the might of giants. After the war, Marley gained the power of all giants except Attack and the founder and sent four young warriors on a covert mission to paradise: Reiner Braun, Bertholdt Hoover, Annie Leonheart and Marcel Galliard. The plan turned out to be a failure, and despite the intervention of Zeke Jaeger and Pieck Finger Paradise, she still managed to force the Marleyans to retreat and even preserve the colossal giant.

Marley’s goal at the moment is a swift counterattack as an impact on the events of Liberius. Marley always intended to destroy the island, but Paradise’s surprise attack severely damaged the army, leaving them without a fleet and without the giant hammer and giant beast. The original idea was to wait for the Allies to arrive, but Reiner convinces the commanders to authorize a quick attack so as not to give the opponents time to organize and rescue the two prisoners Gabi Braun and Falco Grice.

In addition to Marley’s army, Gabi and Falco, Reiner Braun (armored giant), Pieck Finger (giant car), Porco Galliard (giant jaw), Colt Grice (former successor Giant Beast and brother of Falco) belong to this faction. Annie Leonheart (female giant), currently crystallized and imprisoned in paradise. The ultimate goal is the destruction of paradise, the extermination of its inhabitants and revenge on Eren and Zeke Jaeger.
