GKIDS released the first official trailer for Earwig and the witch, the new 3DCG film from Studio Ghibli, in both Japanese subtitles and English dubbing. The film is in the running for an Oscar nomination and dubbing was completed in record time to ensure its eligibility.

The release date is currently unknown but to receive a nomination for the 2020 Academy Awards The film must be shown in North America by February 28, 2021.

The Ghibli film, directed by Goro Miyazaki, will debut in Japan on December 30, 2020 the first to be produced entirely in 3DCG. The end result looks promising, and the lack of competition at the 2020 Oscars may actually guarantee the film a nomination. During the same period, Ufotable’s latest feature film was also distributed, Demon Slayer: Infinity Train, another possible nomination.
