Caution! This review of Chapter 1 of Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2 it’s packed with spoilers. We recommend you first watch the episode and then go back to read.

Chapter 1: The promise of each one
The fight against Petelgeuse is over. Now the allies march back home in triumph, where Subaru, Emilia and the village children advance in the caravan of merchants. Otto drives the cart. Subaru has formally declared to Emilia, but her conscience still weighs heavily on her due to Rem’s words. Everyone is tired, but the young man does his best to tell Emilia the situation with blue hair. However, Subaru realizes that it is too early to relax. Thus begins chapter 1 of Re: Zero 2.
At some point before the conversation between Subaru and Emilia, the caravan of surviving soldiers from the battle against the White Whale, they march back to the capital. Rem accompanies Queen Crusch candidate Karsten, and they have a friendly chat, until an explosion interrupts them. A couple of guys just attacked the caravan, and the girls will have to fight to survive. But they are not beings that they can defeat.

Subaru and Emilia return to the capital, to Crusch’s mansion. Suburu desperately searches for Rem among the wounded, screaming over and over and sees the name of the girl who always took care of him. However, nowhere does the voice of the courageous young woman who stood out so much in the battle against the White Whale come out. This only increases Subaru’s anguish, but in the end she manages to locate her friend’s small body.

The situation in the kingdom is serious. Even with the Archbishop of Laziness off the board, the Witch Cult is far from defeated. Now they have made their next move and there are plenty of victims, including Rem and her favorite Queen Candidate. The battle for Subaru, friends and allies continues.
Opinion
It is simple, Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu It has returned to our lives, and this makes many of us very happy. The misadventures of Subaru have returned in their animated version to accompany us week by week with their bad jokes and thunderous screams. This second season begins aggressively, with Rem, the favorite of many, locked in a deep sleep. What dangers will our useless hero face?
Chapter 1 of Re: Zero 2 It begins right where episode 25 ended, on that already distant September 18, 2016. They have defeated the Archbishop of Laziness, but the problems have not yet ended, since the Witch Cult gives a counterattack to the alliance that defeated the White Whale and helped protect Roswaal’s domain. For this purpose, two new Archbishops appear, corresponding to the sins of Gluttony and Greed.
The episode has been fantastic. That cinematic touch that was used throughout the chapter gave more impact to each event. Those scenes that focus the faces of the characters up close, the shots that show us the scene from upward angles and the precise changes of shots during conversations. From Subaru’s comedy scene with Emilia and Petra in Otto’s carriage, to Rem and Crusch’s short fight against the pair of Archbishops of the Witch Cult, we can see the great work that Re: Zero 2 has behind.
It should also be noted, the great details that hide each scene change of chapter 1 of Re: Zero 2. Large whirlwind of images changed at high speeds have quite a presence throughout its 28 min. These show from flashbacks, to help us remember the events of last season, to another one that has a cute scene from a parallel story. Did you get to see her? It is not easy to find it.
A cult of madmen
The war between Emilia’s faction and the Witch Cult started from last season. Let us remember that the attack of the mabestias was apparently perpetrated by them. However, it was not until Emilia formally announced her candidacy for Queen that the Cult decided to carry out a direct attack. It is here that Petelguese enters the scene, the Archbishop of Laziness, with the intention of killing Emilia and all those around her.

But thinking that the attack would end here was a big mistake for Subaru. The Witch Cult had no reason to wait for the allies to regroup. They were weakened by their battle against the White Whale, making it the perfect time to attack. Also, I think it is very obvious that Petelguese was not the only archbishop of the witch. From your concept, you might think that there are at least six more.
This is where we are introduced to two. Regulus Corneas, the Archbishop of Greed, who, although he said he doesn’t like fighting, has tremendous destructive power. On the other hand we have Ley Batenkaitos, the Archbishop of Gluttony, a small boy with clear psychopathic tendencies and great agility that rivaled Rem’s power. Together, they managed to do great damage to the allies.

Of these two Archbishops, only the Authority of one was revealed to us. Gluttony Authority allows one to devour an individual’s name, memories, or both. If he devours the name, nobody will remember the victim (very similar to the power of the White Whale), if he devours the memories, the victim is anesthetized. Crusch suffered the second, so he does not remember anything, however, Rem received both attacks, leaving him in a coma.
Damage count
Chapter 1 of Re: Zero 2 it has a lot of emotional charge. The damage after the battle is quite serious for all the corners of the alliance. Not only Rem has been in a terrible situation, many others are in the same condition. The Witch Cult attack has been fairly widespread, and this has lowered the morale of all warriors. Including Felix.
Crusch is not in the same state as Rem, but he is still not in a good situation. Almost nothing remains of the implacable warrior that she was before losing her memory. While her great strategic and diplomatic skills continue to give subtle signs of still being within her, her knowledge has waned quite a bit. Not forgetting that his personality has softened, becoming even disturbed by Wilhelm’s hard gaze.
A hard blow to the clerk Felix who has been at Crusch’s side for a long time. He even attempted to break the alliance to keep his beloved Crusch away from battle. The knight never had a great fighting spirit, but this is clearly indicative of his fear of losing a loved one. However, everyone knew the risk of the company they participated in, and quitting just because it’s dangerous isn’t Crusch’s style, with or without memory.
A heavy burden
Subaru has suffered enough since he arrived in that dangerous world. He hasn’t had all the luck of a generic Isekai protagonist; Without great power to help him fight, the effort he must use always pushes him to the limit. While saying he doesn’t have a cheating ability would not be correct, his power is not something I would ask a god to send me into a fantasy world.
The Return of Death has been of great help to Subaru. Having seemingly endless opportunities to solve problems doesn’t seem so bad; He manages to collect information every time he returns, which compensates for his lack of strength. However, it is more of a curse than a blessing. Even if you know you can redo things, you will always have to look at the lifeless bodies of the people you love. The emotional impact of that situation cannot be eliminated.

Added to that, Subaru always had to act alone. The inability to tell someone of his powers always put him in that situation, and he thought that would be the case when he realized that he could not die and return to save Rem. But Emilia does not intend to leave him alone. Although he may not remember the blue-haired girl, he will take care of her and help Subaru just because she is important to him. Subaru will no longer be alone.
Conclusions
Again I say it, Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu He has returned and we are all very happy. After 4 years he returns with a second season, which seems more like an immediate continuation of the first. Even officially chapter 1 of Re: Zero 2 it’s numbered as episode 26, although in this series of reviews starting today we’ll start numbering from 1, and I’ll add 2 to the end of the name to tell the difference.
This beginning has fascinated me and I expect great things from this adaptation. I know some details of the story that the light novel tells, but nothing that can spoil what these future 25 episodes will tell us. So here we start with this adventure that this Summer 2020 anime season offers us. Anyway, what did you think of Chapter 1 of Re: Zero 2?
