The phenomenon of censorship in anime is an extremely sensitive issue that has already caused controversy in all parts of the world, from Korea to our country. However, the phenomenon in question is more pronounced in China, where streaming services are forced to make major changes to productions.
Last June, the anime Maid Dragon returned to the small screen in Japan with a second season, a series that enjoyed considerable success at home and beyond. The popular sequel recently landed in China thanks to the streaming platform bilibili which nevertheless distributed a heavily revised version and sparked another controversy on the Internet.
Thanks to the guys from The soul of animationwho tracked some of the changes made to Maid Dragon S, you can check out the censorship that the Chinese portal published. In addition to a more or less questionable quality, the distributor has almost completely changed the appearance of the female characters by reducing the prosperity of the curves. Wherever possible, the team limited itself to reducing the breasts of the female characters, in others it decided to darken the images by using dice in the sensitive areas. That obviously sparked the community and the topic has already gone viral on the net.
Anyway, you can see a comparison between the censored and the original images at the bottom of the news. As for you, what do you think of these changes instead? Let us know with a comment below.
