In the world of American superheroes, no one can boast of Spider-Man’s dozen of alternative costumes. Between alternate universes, cartoons, films and video games, The list of costumes available for Spider-Man is immense. In this article, we’re going to list what we think are the best Spider-Man costumes.
Recently we even spotted Andrew Garfield’s favorite Spider-Man costume from the movies. Between different iterations and subjective tastes, some premises are a must: We are just looking the costumes that Peter Parker wore from the Marvel Universe in the comics. Of course, these are purely subjective opinions, and we do not hide the fact that in some cases the choice of the specific costume was also influenced by the story in which it was the protagonist.
Future Foundation
In 2010, Fantastic Four played in the story “Three,” in which Johnny Storm, the human torch, lost his life. However, this did not lead to the dissolution of the Fantastic Four, but to the creation of the Future Foundation, a group he saw the remaining members of the quartet ally with Spider-Man. All Future Foundation members wear a white costume made of unstable molecules with a very modern design, but the most interesting is certainly the Spider-Man costume that debuted in Fantastic Four # 579 by Jonathan Hickman and Neil Edwards.
Camouflage suit
Another particularly interesting Spider-Man costume appeared in 2010: the Stealth Suit. This costume was designed by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos and made its debut in the Big Time saga. It’s about a high-tech suit from Peter Parker thanks to the resources made available to him through his new job as a researcher for Horizon Labs. The Stealth Suit was particularly useful in the fight with Phil Urich’s Hobgoblin, as it has a filter that neutralizes the enemy’s “Lunatic Laughter”, a sonic force that can even bring a building down.
Spider armor MKIII
During his long career, Peter Parker has worn a variety of armor. The most iconic is definitely the Spider-Armor MKIII, Protagonist of the story Ends of the Earth, published in 2012 by Dan Slott and Stefano Caselli. The dying Doctor Octopus takes Earth hostage and finds a way to accelerate global warming. Flanked by the Sinister Six, Octopus still offers the world a path to safety: recognize him as a hero, reward him with billions of dollars and take sides against Spider-Man. But Peter Parker does not allow himself to be caught unprepared: thanks to the Spider-Armor MKIII that is she is armed to deal with every single member of the Sinister Six, Spider-Man manages to stop Octopus’ plans by literally saving the world.
Classic costume
There’s nothing to do: no matter how many alternative costumes you can give birth, the most iconic will always be the first. However, the classic Spider-Man costume has actually seen several iterations: On its debut Steve Ditko represented it with a much darker blue, almost tending towards black compared to the lighter blue Spider-Man will go down in history with. In any case, the most iconic portrayal of the classic costume will always remain that of John Romita Sr., who will take over the reins of the head from The Amazing Spider-Man # 39 of 1966 after the abandonment of Ditko.
Black costume
In reality, there is one costume that, over time, could have achieved the same fame as the classic: the black costume. The black costume that first appeared in Secret Wars # 8 in 1984 isn’t even a proper costume, but rather an alien symbiote that will become just a few years later one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains: Poison. In fact, the popularity of the black suit was so overwhelming that Marvel Comics was forced to outfit Spider-Man with a black suit in the same design as the Alien suit (this time made of plain fabric). And even if Spider-Man keeps going back to his classic red and blue costume for one reason or another, the black costume always finds a way out: One example is the story of Back in Black, published in 2007.
Now the ball goes to you: What do you think of our decisions? The wardrobe of the friendly wall climber from the neighborhood is getting bigger and bigger: Peter Parker will receive several new Spider-Man costumes in No Way Home next month.
