Chapter 6: Allaying My Fears
Chikage checks the networks, sees them talking so coldly and carelessly about their dead friends, thinking they don’t know what they are going through. He cares very much about Yuna, he knows that she has sacrificed more and his thoughts “materialize” in his head, he hears what he wants to hear. His house is a horror, dirty and with an alcoholic father, his adventurous love mother and with painted outside walls. Nothing has changed even though he left town. Through the networks, he sees that they praise Nogi for what he doesn’t support and take action. If a vertex attacks, it will “help” Nogi, but only to get revenge and prevent her from taking Yuna from him. Life and death fight?
Chapter opinion
The Nogi of the past and Chikage take on the leading role and development that Kusunoki and Co. should have played if they were the “new” protagonists. In principle I don’t like it, the storyline seems to be more interesting with the girls of the past than with the current ones, but I have the feeling that they wanted to incorporate new elements and couldn’t cover much besides the chapters Kusunoki and Co. dedicated I felt it with a slow development. Given the contrast, in these last two chapters it seems that the plot is much more advanced than the previous one. I would say this: They’re not bad characters, just that some are underdeveloped. On the other hand, I loved the chapter, the case of Chikage is very good and for certain things that are gradually revealed to us, it is understood how it went down.
The terrible world around us
A series can attract attention by the topics or subject matter it touches and also by focusing on current affairs. That is why the internet is a good mechanism for developing a plot. This is a good case, not the best, but a good one. Much of the dislike for Chikage (who is the protagonist of the chapter) is based on what appears on the networks. The internet is a double-edged sword as it gives people a degree of freedom to say what they want even if they are not aware of the facts, since not everything is what it appears on a screen. In other words, they speak from a privileged position, from an area in which they are not directly affected by what is happening or that does not even affect them. Nobody can say anything about the “anonymity”.
I want a hero
The previous topic is an activator, but the protagonist’s own desires also regulate her behavior. And here is a wish: to feel loved by who you admire. Yuna is the heroine of Chikage, this was made clear in the previous chapter, when Yuna was fighting Nogi, a gesture was drawn on her face, “amazing, she can fight the best”. Why do we want a hero? Maybe because we want to strive for more in life, to be the model we take. This feeling of Chikage makes itself felt with its shortcomings because finally fighting for Yuna is not that notorious. Everything is clearer with the city too, it was rejected and all that, she wanted to escape from this place and find a better life that she will never have, because heroes are people too.
Fall and shame
The city has not gone away, it has just gotten bigger and Chikage herself is in a state of mental crisis because of the shadow that appears to her indicating what she wants to hear. Add in the completely dysfunctional family. It goes without saying that it has layers of hardness because it wants to pretend it isn’t: strong. Pretending to be what you are not is one of the worst things for mental health because you internalize that you are never loved for what it is, but there is no acceptance or self-acceptance for what it appears to be. In the end, Chikage’s actions (for the act) are absolutely justified. Everything comes to a climax when she sees that her heroine gets along better with Nogi, that she herself is not the one who is worth it. Who wants to lose what is loved? All that remains is to fight for it, and the best way to win a competition is to have no competition.
A good chapter, but if they had just focused on those events the anime would feel better in my opinion as there are confusing things and characters, at least for now. We’re in the thick of it, so there is still a solution to the bugs.
