With Dark Knights of Steel, DC Comics has ventured into an out-of-the-box work that has brought its most important superheroes into a medieval fantasy universe. In this “metaverse”, one of the components of the Justice League of America turns out to be a crazy, angry murderer.
The 12-part miniseries by the writer Tom Taylor and the artist Yasmine Putri revolutionize the world of DC Comics heroeswho abandon the usual scenarios to immerse themselves in a Game of Throne style fantasy adventure. Dark knight made of steel changes not only the epoch in which the events take place, but also the entire narrative plot and the origins of some characters. For example, Superman’s parents manage to escape the destruction of Krypton and arrive on earth with their son Kal-El. As rulers of the country, El Castle is defended by knights of the caliber Robin and Batman, the second half-brother of Superman.
The kingdom of Jor-El is attacked by the magician called “Green Man”, meaning a green lantern. In the final phase of the first volume, what it should be Hal Jordan strengthens one of his ally Oliver Queen’s arrows with his green magic. When Green Arrow fires his arrow, he pursues his target Jor-El and pierces his right eye, possibly killing him.
In Dark Knights of Steel, therefore, is the Justice League of America divided into two factions: on the one hand Superman and Batman, on the other Green Lantern and Green Arrow. How will this internal battle between members of DC Comics’ most famous hero group turn out? Let us know what you think of this medieval story?
